House Of China
About This Spot
Stepping into House Of China on John F Kennedy Road in Dubuque is like stepping back in time to a quieter, simpler moment where the clatter of daily life softens into a slow, comforting rhythm. The space carries a familiar warmth — part nostalgia, part genuine hominess — where the hum of friendly chatter and the faint scent of sizzling dishes create an inviting atmosphere that feels both steady and unpretentious.
This isn’t a place chasing trends or forging flashy new menus. Instead, House Of China holds onto the flavors and experience that have quietly gathered a steady, loyal following for decades. Whether settling in for a meal or picking up a delivery, you sense the care taken in each dish — the gentle balance of time-honored recipes and freshly prepared ingredients. There’s a tangible feeling that here, meals are more than just food; they’re comforting rituals meant to be savored slowly and shared with those who appreciate that sense of connection.
From the welcoming smiles at the door to the attentive yet relaxed service, House Of China carries an easy familiarity. The menu offers a comforting variety of traditional Chinese fare, where dishes arrive with a satisfying warmth that crosses from the kitchen to the table. You might find yourself reaching for a classic crab rangoon or a steaming bowl of egg drop soup, the kind that taste as timeless as the restaurant itself. Guests returning after years away often remark on the consistent feeling, like rediscovering a fond memory that never quite fades.
In its steady way, House Of China is less about the hustle of the latest culinary buzz and more about a quiet invitation to pause, enjoy, and reconnect—with friends, family, or simply a moment of calm over food that feels familiar and true.

The best Chinese restaurant I have ever been too. I live in Alabama and every time I come to Iowa it’s a must eat. I drive 15 hours just for those crab rangoons!!

Had the family dinner for 3 meal. Came with 2 wonton and a egg rolls per person. Got the mandarin meal, which came with 3 courses and rice. As well as egg drop soup. Got a side order of hot and sour soup. Both were phenomenal!!!! Are waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall experience for price and food made this a 10/10!

Family has been coming here for a very long time. Like a different time/place......from the parking lot to the inside decor, it's like a time capsule from the 1980s. Ordered takeaway this last time for five people, and it was the first time being back in several years, but the service was great, and the food was awesome......still my favorite egg rolls from a Chinese restaurant....only critique is that the crab rangoons could have had more cream cheese :)

I have been coming here since I was a kid and the food has had its ups and downs over the decades but I got delivery tonight and whoever cooked it must have come back from the 90’s/early 2000’s. It was exactly as good as it used to be.
